Our aim is to develop a network of Disabled People across Warwickshire and Coventry who can be instrumental in developing the policies and practices of service providers across this geographical area. We hope to achieve this by creating a pathway between network members and service providers, with network members offering their expertise as a consultative body.

Further to this we are aiming to recruit a team of volunteer Social Justice Advocates who will work with individual Disabled People in order to assist them to self-advocate and/or to advocate on their behalf. The advocates will undergo an training programme to include, for example, Disability equality and Social model training as well as an introductory course into the skills required to be an advocate and what is advocacy.

The social Justice Teams also offer an information service for Disabled People as well as carers and professionals working in the interest of Disabled people. The information we offer ranges from basic everyday enquiries such as “where do I get a blue badge”? to more complex information such as social policy and legislation.

From a policy perspective the Social Justice Team are in an ideal position to collate information relating to gaps in and quality of service provision across Warwickshire and Coventry and to challenge these issues in a variety of ways.
