Screen Rootz - West Midlands Digital Shorts Production Scheme

Screen Rootz is part of the national Bfi scheme, Black World - a major initiative from the British Film Institute celebrating black creativity in film, television and the moving image. Screen Rootz will produce up to 15 digital short films from aspiring, emerging and established black and Asian filmmakers. Black Health Experts Criticise NHS Over Mis-Directed Campaigns

Black health experts have said many of the Department of Health’s initiatives are still failing to tackle the basic problems blocking communication between the black communities and the health service.


The Black & Minority Ethnic Participation Project aims to work with individual people, BME organisations and white organisation to encourage the participation of BME Disabled People within the political, social, economic lives of our communities.

Participation includes any of the following:

  • Asking for information on Disability Issues
  • Attending or taking part in social events
  • Taking part in training seminars
  • Offering views on community matters
  • Taking part in management committees
  • Voluntary Work
  • Taking part in forums and steering groups

BME Participation Project will:

  • Establish a 'Race' and Disability Forum of Disability, Black and statutory organisations
  • Work to ensure that BME Disabled People become part of a Disability Network
  • Work with BME organisations across the sub-region to support them to gain a better understanding of disability issues and Discrimination
  • Offer Advocacy to BME Disabled People
  • Offer support to white organisations to ensure that culturally accessible services are offered
  • Develop work around disabled refugees.
