Fitness testing for disabled dancers
Are you a dancer/performer with a disability? Have you ever been tested for fitness? Do you know what your aerobic or anaerobic capacity is? Rachel Bradbear is currently studying on an MSc Dance Science course at Laban and is a Dance Lecturer at Middlesex University. She is interested in researching ways to improve the fitness levels of disabled dancers. There has been very little research into the fitness levels of dancers with sensory and mobility impairments and methods to improve and maintain greater levels of fitness. Undertaking this research would go to help in advising disabled dancers of training methods to improve aerobic and anaerobic capacities. Would you be willing to be part of a nationwide dance science research study? Testing is scheduled to take place in Spring 2006, dates & venue to be confirmed. You would only be required for one or two days. Travel and accommodation expenses and support costs will be covered. This is an initial call to disabled dancers to get in touch with Rachel if you are at all interested in being involved and to first complete a questionnaire. She will then be fundraising for the research itself. She is hopeful that this will be a nationwide survey.
