The CDP is an organisation run and controlled by Disabled people. It has been in existence since the early 1990's and exists to promote the rights and the full participation of Disabled people economically, socially and politically.
The organisation has always worked towards promoting the interests of Disabled people regardless of their particular impairment under medical/individual model definition by concentrating on removing those barriers that exclude disabled people from taking a full part in the social, political and economic lives of the community in which they live.
CDP carries out its work in through a variety of ways:
- Endeavouring to use its intelligence through talking to disabled people and specific research to influence policy and strategy on access, employment, education, and transportation at local government, regional and national level.
- Service provision for Disabled people - information and advice, web-based services, one to one crisis advocacy and hate crime reporting.
- Training Programmes - Disability and Inequality, Disability Discrimination Act, Race and Disability, Disability and The Arts, Disability Equality Standards, Mystery Shopper.
- In house research and commissioned research - results all available on line on this web-site.
- Volunteering and Mentoring.
- Mentoring schemes for employment.
